Ancient Herbal Oils and Medieval Persian Medicines

Various pharmaceutical uses in medieval Persian medicine are described in historical medical and pharmacological writings. Medicinal oils extracted from a wide variety of plants are commonly used for topical and/or internal applications in treating various conditions. Traditional Iranian medicine relies heavily on natural oils made through traditional means. More than three thousand years of tradition have been devoted to the study and practice of oil administration. The scientific study of these ancient texts may lead to the discovery of novel therapeutic applications in modern medicine. This book (i) catalogs the many herbal oils that were popular in ancient and medieval Persia and (ii) examines the similarities and differences between traditional Persian medicine and modern scientific knowledge on the medicinal benefits of various plant species.
