This book is written in textbook format and present an overview of different aspects of fish genetics in an understandable and systematic style. Genetics is the branch of science which deals with the study of heredity and variation. Genetics as the study of the underlying causes of variation that exists for the phenotypes and the way that the differences are inherited. Fishes are poikilothermic and cold blooded animals, typically with backbones, gills for respiration, locomotion by paired and unpaired fins and are primarily dependent on water as a medium in which to live. Breeding is the applied science of genetics that exploits the genetic component of variation in order to change the population for man's benefit.
