Women's political participation is a fundamental prerequisite for gender equality and genuine democracy. It facilitates women's direct engagement in public decision-making and is a means of ensuring better accountability to women. Pre- independence era, women have no rights to provide their participation in politics. But with effect from 7 July, 1954, women are entitled tovote in all elections on equal terms with men, without any discrimination. Women shall be eligible for election to all publicly elected bodies, established by national law, on equal terms with men, without any discrimination. This book “Political Participation of Women” focuses on paths to Power and Political Influence examines the role of women in politics from the early women's movement to the female politicians in power today. It also explores women's struggle for political power which is one of the most gestures through which women could achieve their rightful place in the society. This book reflects hardships, grief and sorrow, their achievements and disappointments as also and their success and failure in this battle.
