The book “Role of Soil Fertility, Renewal and Preservation in Biodynamic Agriculture” discusses the importance of proper handling of manure and compost for biodynamic method of soil treatment. The process is described as a land of hormone influence where the fermentation is guided in a definite direction. Artificial fertilizers are described as harmful to agriculture and soil biologic activity and should never be used. The author quotes evidence from scientific tests to support his views for the biodynamic treatment of the soil to maintain it in health and with a capacity for high production. There is ample material for controversy in the book. One point of personal interest may be mentioned in connotation with an acid soil where earthworms were scarce. After heavy phosphate treatment on a plot basis the number of worms in this area increased considerably and subsequently mole heaps were numerous. This did not happen in the unfertilized areas on the same paddock. This book is concerned primarily with the interrelationships of soils and growing plants. It has been prepared as a textbook for students taking a course in soil fertility and as a reference book for student in soil management courses.
