Description

A crime scene is any location that may be associated with a committed crime. Crime scenes contain physical evidence that is pertinent to a criminal investigation. This evidence is collected by crime scene investigators (CSIs) and law enforcement. The application of science and technology plays a critical role in the investigation and adjudication of crimes in our criminal justice system. But before science can be brought to bear on evidence, it must be recognized and collected in an appropriate manner at crime scenes. A crime laboratory, often shortened to crime lab, is a scientific laboratory, using primarily forensic science for the purpose of examining evidence from criminal cases. Forensic science is the umbrella term for a collection of scientific procedures that can be employed when it comes to providing evidence that a crime has been committed and also provides ways and means of proving how a crime has been committed. In its simplest form it can be a means by which fingerprints, fibres, DNA and bodily fluids can be collected and stored - without contamination - so that they can be later used as evidence in a police investigation into a specific crime - or indeed series of crimes. Forensic science and crime scene investigators are using technology more than ever before. To solve crimes, the investigators are using futuristic technologies that you have only seen in Hollywood movies and web series till now. Forensic science is making progress by leaps and bounds to contain homicide and other crimes. Sometimes the tools are so advanced that they are scary to believe. It seems the days are not far when Sci-Fi movies such as Minority Report and Inception may come true. The application of science and technology plays a critical role in the investigation and adjudication of crimes in our criminal justice system.
